Are you ready for the most grand and exciting event in the target = "_blank" Audemars Piguet replica watch world> 2009? So now I'll tell you something about the history of Audemars Piguet.
A trio of warships christened Royal Oak, named after the legendary "Royal Oak" – a hollow tree which offered King Charles II in a secret safe from his pursuers – lent their distinctive name in 1972 to a luxury sport equally distinctive watch – the Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet. Since then, Royal Oak has become the flagship of the firm's world-class Brassus and helped the wristwatch in stainless steel achieve respectability among watch lovers around the world.
The story begins in Audemars Piguet 1875 when twenty three years old watchmaker Jules Audemars and future partner Edward-August Piguet, just twenty-one years, met in the Valle de Joux. Both had learned the watchmaker's craft after finishing public school in their hometown of Le Brassus by training on the bench and returned to the Valley Joux to find jobs in the local watchmaking industry. Jules Audemars was soon producing raw components for watch movements, while Edward-August Piguet sought a job as a presser "(a master watchmaker who performs the final settlement of a watch). Shortly after their meeting in 1875, the two talented watchmakers decided to join forces and founded the company that would one day come to be known as Audemars, Piguet & Cie
Near the beginning, Audemars was in charge of production and the technical side, while his partner Piguet focused sales. Their partnership was not an immediate success, however. In fact, the Audemars Piguet trademark was not even registered until 1882 and "the company official founding" did not occur until 1889. Already, however, Audemars Piguet et Cie became the third largest employer in the manufacture of watches in the canton of Vaud. More importantly perhaps, the two men had deliberately shifted them to produce high quality watches, complex, ultra-precise.
Shortly after the official founding in 1889, a branch was built in Geneva and the partners decided to produce all of their components and assemble the finished watches in-house. This allowed the company to maintain strict quality control their products and, therefore, only products of the highest quality left the workshop. In a short time, most, most famous jewelers in retail were control watches from Le Brassus. Today, one can find many Audemars Piguet pocket watches like Audemars Piguet identifiable by their serial number, the result of prestigious jewelers such as Tiffany & Co. and Gübelin, wishing their name engraved on the movement and case, and not that of Audemars Piguet.
It is interesting to note that, between 1894 and 1899, a mere 1,208 hits were produced. Among these were among the most sophisticated watches ever made, including the legendary "Grande Complication "series, which is still produced today. In addition to the indication of normal time, a Grande Complication timepiece offers minute repeater, perpetual calendar, chronograph.
At this very moment, the retail operations in Geneva and London were transformed into full-service branches where watches are not only, but also assembled. In 1914, Audemars Piguet has launched a project to develop a watch so complicated that it would take six years of continuous production before the watch could be delivered to the importers Guignard & Golay in London.
The watch in question was a pocket watch with two buttons and a tourbillon mechanism than a minute. Besides a vortex, this double dial Lepine, gold watch included a minute repeater, chronograph with calendar 60 minutes and 12 hours counters, perpetual calendar with view that "jump" at midnight, the display of the leap year cycle, age "and phases of the moon, and reserve display power. The second side showed a further period of 24 hours depending on the sidereal time, moving a pair of independent hands. A special system connected to this wheel lets see the changes in the London sky at any time of day or night, through a shaped opening oval in the back line. The sky is represented by 315 stars engraved on a gold plate, enameled in blue. The stars, with their respective names are clearly visible.
Unfortunately, it was the last triumph for the founding partners. Audemars died in 1918. The following year, so do Edward Piguet.
After the death of the founder, Audemars Piguet has continued to prosper, establishing several technical milestones with the creation the world's smallest minute repeater watch, having a diameter of only 15.8 millimeters, the beginnings of a model of Hunter (shows pocket hinged lid) with a jumping second hand, also including a barometer, quarter repeater, independent second hand, the date and day of week, and in 1925, another first: the thinnest pocket in the world watch as 1.32 mm. The year 1928 also seen the development of the first Pocketwatch skeleton.
Needless to say, then as now, target = "_blank"> Audemars Piguet was considered one of the finest watch manufacturers in the world. Business boomed, and the global economy. Customers of Audemars Piguet included the prestigious Gübelin jewelers, Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Bulgari. Unfortunately, ground success of the company to halt an offensive in 1929, while 737 watches were sold. In contrast, nearly 2,000 watches were sold 1920. With the stock market crash of 1929 and subsequent depression, there were suddenly very few customers for luxury watches. Like other watch companies Swiss Audemars Piguet was forced to lay off most of its workforce, to the bottom in 1932, when only two hits were produced.
Despite difficult times, the company has rebounded following the Second World War, thanks to the success of its chronographs and ultra-thin (the famous nine-gauge line 2003) dress watches.
1950 and 1960 saw a revival in sales of the company. In 1967, in cooperation with Jaeger LeCoultre, a new record for the thinnest (2.45 mm) automatic movement with a rotor placed in the center of 21-carat gold, was created. Only three years later, in 1970, the watchmakers of Audemars Piguet thin first movement of the world (3.05 mm) to include the posting date and a central rotor gold. The year 1972, of course, marked the beginnings of what became the signature model for Audemars Piguet, "Royal Oak".
Designed by the legendary watchmaker Gerald Genta, its octagonal shape, steel edges and the use of prominent hexagonal screws as a strike feature Design a perfect balance between power and elegance. Worthy of the name, Royal Oak has since become a legend. Its octagonal design, produced only High quality steel, had the breath of many professionals. However, when the Royal Oak was unveiled at the European Watchmaking 1972 in Basel with a price of only 3300 francs. – Unheard of for a watch bearing the name of Audemars Piguet – its success was beyond even its creators expectations!
In 1993, the company museum, housed in the original workshop of Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet, has been established. This museum, a tribute to the visionary founders of the company, allows fans to discover Audemars Piguet technology "from A to Z." Its exhibits retrace the key steps in company history, and show a lot of creations that have made famous Audemars Piguet, including the Grande Complication. In addition to its unique collection of antique watches, and especially watch complications, this peculiar museum allows visitors to see the complexity and precision required in horology, by observing two master watchmakers at work in the modern Audemars Piguet studio, which is a permanent feature museum.
That same year, a new model of the Royal Oak collection first: the Royal Oak Offshore, which is resistant to water to a depth of 10 atmospheres. The Offshore model offers the following functions: chronograph 1 / 5 second, tachymeter, 30 minutes, 12 hours counter display date, seconds display, automatic movement with central rotor in 21-carat gold.
Three years later, in 1996, shows a version of the famous "Grand Complication" the first time in Basel. More than 600 components are contained in a motion of no more integrated than 8.5 mm in height. This is a technical marvel that marries the craft with the old technology, such as assisted conception Computer (CAD). It was also in 1996 that Audemars Piguet has launched a new era, becoming one of the first SAs important to represent the Internet with its official website.
