Gps Wristwatch Casio
Watches Manufacturers of GPS Tracking
Looking to buy a GPS tracking watch and want to know who makes the best. Answering This may be simple, there are only three well-known companies making them, Garmin, Suunto and Timex. This does not mean there are no other companies out there making cheap knock offs, but we will not focus on them.
Some might say "What Casio is it? They are a well known company. "It's true and they make quality products, but they are no longer a GPS watch so that leaves Garmin, Suunto and Timex.
When looking at the models offered by each company, you will find a variety of features available. I think it is important mention that these watches will not do because there may be some misconceptions out there.
Many of us have, or had a GPS system in a car or boat. These gadgets are great to have and can be a real time saver especially for those who travel a lot for work or pleasure. These units Display your location on a map and may include sites such as restaurants, gas stations, etc.
GPS watches have displays very small so that the mapping function is not practical. Is not this the voice feature to tell you when to turn!
GPS tracking watches use satellites to locate a position, then with further updates to the position, they show data for speed, distance, altitude and more, depending on model. Options may include a heart rate monitor or cadence tracker.
You can quickly see a couple of important changes in how companies package their GPS watches. In all cases, the systems use a receiver GPS and a bit of time to perform the numerical calculations. Being a watch, they offer all the data display in what appears to be a good wristwatch sometimes very large.
The GPS receiver may be contained in the watch or separately attached to the arm or can be mounted on a belt.
It would be wise to give this matter a thought before making a purchase. I'd rather have the watch and GPS receiver self contained and worn as an ordinary watch, but opinions vary.
Garmin Forerunner 205, 305 and 405 which are all-in-one model, which looks like a Digital wristwatch but larger. They also offer the Forerunner 101 and 102 that use a Velcro around the wrist, but looks closer to wear iPod.
The Garmin line uses a receiver that is built in and wraps around the wrist, a little, to keep it oriented toward the sky for a better reception. The units also include a USB port for sharing data with your PC. An A / C battery charger is used to top it off the battery providing generally from 8 to 10 hours of monitoring consumption.
Timex has been making watches almost always offered models oriented sport for decades. They use a separate approach shows Garmin GPS receiver to the difference. It does have some advantages, including the opportunity to wear the watch every day because it is small enough to be practical. When the time arises you simply turn on and set the GPS receiver and separate you're ready to go. Timex also offers an almost infinite range of sports watches.
The third manufacturer Suunto, as you might guess offers several models. They usually look like a typical digital wristwatch. The GPS receiver is contained in a unit separate wireless watch can be very compact. options are typical altimeter, barometer, heart rate countdown timers monitors etc.
The technology is constantly changing so that the smaller, cheaper models will likely become available in the near future. It will also be interesting to see if other companies will join in and offer their own line of GPS tracking watches.
