Old Pocket Watches

How do I wind my pocket watch?

I have this kind of old pocket watch. It seems to be wound by turning a knob, but if I do so, it will just cycle through the numbers 1-31 (date) in a small box at the bottom. To set it, I pull the knob up and wind it to the correct time. I can do all of that, but I just can’t wind it. Please help.
