Does anyone have an idea what movie I think?

I read an article on gender Furngully Avatar: The Last Rainforest that triggered the images in this movie I remember as a kid. I remember is that this boy is riding a giant eagle or a bird that has saved a net cutting the net with a pocket knife. That's all I remember well he was jealous and I seen somewhere in the middle of late 90s. Also, I think that probably was the establishment in Australia, but I'm not sure. Sorry, but that's all I remember.
