Pocket Watch Case Markings

Look for information on a pocket watch.?

Only markings are "Chronometre of France" on the face. Back opens. Did not. 39 inside a rectangular box w / flat corners. Also a serial number 636 and the **** not. 38 in this. opens a second time to reveal genuine works. Case appears to be silver or silver plate. Any information would be appreciated.
