How do you interpret the date pocket watch Ed in Full Metal Alchemist?

He said: "3.Oct.11" and I guess that means October 11, but I do not know what the 3 means. I think it might have something to do with the day of the week, but this is a guess. Please help!

It is October 3, October 11.I not think it's 11 in the manga, and 10 in the anime. im not sure, but I Hink is the date on which they burned their house and left to become a state alchemist and i guess 11 is the year
