confiscated drug money?…?
i was watching the show “cops” over the weekend, and the show had an incident of the cops arresting a suspected drug dealer. as they were emptying his pockets they found over $1,000, which was obviously drug money. it made me wonder, when a drug dealer is tried and convicted, what do they do with all the money they confiscate? the person wouldn’t get it back because it’s drug money, and i’m sure they don’t leave it laying around in an evidence locker to collect dust….where does it go?
Normally state law mandates how confiscated money is divided up. A percentage to the state, a percentage to the county, and a percentage to the municipal department that confiscated the money to begin with. There have been arguments made, and there is some truth to the allegations, that departments target particular drug dealers in the hopes of scoring big prizes.
