Where are the Heroes Gone?
We are a society of faithful heroes. But we had a lack of heroes in recent years. Most of our leaders, athletes, superstar, the film begins, CEOs, and senators have left us disappointed, frustrated and disappointed. These days, we must look beyond the glitter of Hollywood, the weak excuses of superstar athletes and the "spin" of politicians and Chief Executive Officer to find the real heroes.
Historical research shows that heroes have always followed the same set of principles over the past years, several thousand without even knowing it. They have left a trail well inclined to follow their examples. Each of them, as models individual, met to form a giant, universal model.
Heroes have an uncanny ability to look beyond the current crisis and see a great goal and overall they forget, momentarily, on everything else, everything – including their own interests. These are the types of people who have always been our hero – regularly in recent years thousands of years. These are the types of heroes we need more today.
But who are these heroes and where are you? It appears that you do not have to look very far.
At my funeral Recent Dad in the small town of Castroville, Texas, a man came up to me and said: "Your dad has changed my life." I was shocked.
My Dad was a typical old-style Hispanic authoritarian figure, with a jaw of stone, reluctant to show great affection to all those, including his family. There was a strong discipline. We were terrified of him when we were kids. It could be harsh and cold at times, but it was always my father and we all loved and respected.
He grew up in poverty as a migrant farm worker, journey with the cotton harvest season to another, living in small tent cities with all other migrant farm workers.
At age 17 he left home to join the Force air. He did his basic training at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, like many other troops during this period. In fact, he had a very High IQ and became an intelligence officer, interpreting code as it was transmitted by the Russians during the Cold War.
After have received an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went to college at Howard Payne University in Brownwood tiny, Texas, where he decided to study to become a preacher. During the summers, he volunteered in the small town of Mason, Texas.
————————————————– ——————————
In this town there lived a poor teenage boy named Fred Zavala, who was raised by his alcoholic grandfather in a shack of a room without furniture, it, except a rusty old bed spring. He was a pariah. One day a student lean Bible came to visit. The student's mission is to change the world one person at a time. The student called Fred and his grandfather church. At first, Fred resisted. But because of the warm enthusiasm of the student and the joy of living, Fred finally gone to church. It was a Hispanic evangelical church in Mason, Texas.
At the church, Fred developed a crush on a girl named Janie. But Janie's father was aware of Fred's background and circumstances and therefore was not an unconditional Fred. Fred has never been invited to the house when her father invited Janie other church members to dinner after church. Instead, he walked slowly past the home of Janie with his head bowed, hands in pockets, looking longingly at Janie's house, hoping that could go in.
Finally, with time the student of the Bible in this small city was coming to end, he tried to get Fred a job so he could learn a trade and earn a living. He managed to get a job at a machine shop car Fred, but things do not work not there. Then Fred got a job pulling rocks at construction sites. Every day in the hot, burning sun of Texas, Fred faithfully carried its rocks. This was not a glamorous job. But it was a job. He watched with fascination at the skill with which the stonemasons cut and laid the foundation stone to build beautiful structures. He thought: "I want to learn to do." He has taken an internal decision to learn stonework of the masons who wore the stone. Looking at them and ask questions, he finally did find the stone. He continued this work with passion to his masterly work began to be noticed by others. His work has received the request until he finally began his own building business.
Over the years, he has well financially, and he ended up buying houses and land. He even married his dream girl, Janie! He also started a Mexican restaurant across the street from the finest steak house in town. Finally, the steak house went bankrupt and the bank has asked Fred if he was interested in buying the building. Fred did and he turned the steakhouse into a thriving business. Now, after church in Mason, Texas, Most people eat at every restaurant Zavala Mexican or Fred's Steak House. The outcast who has rarely been invited to dinner is one of the men the richest of the city and has two restaurants most frequented.
How did this turn come to be? It began with a poor the young student with a passion for people. He saw what no one else in this town has seen. He saw the wealth where others saw the rubble. The vision was then spread and grew in the heart of a teenager who chose to believe in a force greater than himself and therefore, came to Believe in your own abilities. It happened because two men pursued their dreams with unique passion, dedication constant and the blood, sweat and tears. Neither Fred nor the young student the Bible will never be known, but both achieved their dreams. The two have lived happy, fulfilling lives. Fred never got any what he hoped. The student has achieved its objectives and it has helped transform the life of a young man around that of a poor pariah to that of a wealthy businessman well respected in the community. The student has been my father, Daniel Castro. This is Zavala why Fred came to me at my funeral my father and said: "Your dad has changed my life."
We can now clone animals, and we may even be able to clone human beings soon. But we can not clone the character and integrity and the kind of selflessness which is the heart and souls of heroes. So, where our future heroes come from? They come from within. When we learn to see through the hero's eyes, we see the kind of things heroes see. We'll see where others see the wealth rubble. We see opportunity where others see obstacles. We will be able to walk where heroes, and we will be able to act as law hero. But first, it takes a decision. The decision behind the decision to focus on a goal larger than ourselves.
When hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit, the People from across the United States has invited strangers into their homes, and donations of food, water, clothing, books and millions of dollars to victims. It was a heartening reminder that if we ever suffer such a tragedy, there may be some people out there who would come to our rescue.
When we help other people weather the storms, something inexplicable happens in the cosmos. Electricity begins to flow, we feel more energy, brain cells are more creative people come together, their hearts swell – and sometimes just from time to time, miracles happen.
You do not have to look far to find the real heroes among us. You can not see the TV or read about them in newspapers. But they are there. . . change the world. . . one person at a time.
