Pocket Watch Stems

How do you wind a watch pocket?

I think buying a vintage pocket watch, but I do not really know much about wind properly. I read that you remove the winding stem, and then twist it until it is fairly hard. Does just about everything there is to this? I hate to ruin a beautiful piece of vintage watches. One thing I do not get is, do you have to reset the clock every day then? How long the clock running as soon as the wound? Thank you

Yes, you pull the pin, then the wind clockwise. Not too tight, you can break the spring or stretch it so it does not work as well. Some pocket watches had 8 movements per day, you feel the wind once a week, like every Sunday night before going to bed. But most (I think) had 1 movement per day, that means you wind all day. It should be the same time each day because the clock runs slightly faster when it is wound tight and a bit slower than the spring gets less tight, and you take the average of these fixed the regulator (the speed setting). In other words, if you hurt him once a day at 10:00 pm and set the regulator to keep the right time and then you began to reel 3 or 4 times a day, it might then be run fast in minutes per day. Yes, most watches reset all the days when you wind. A pocket watch, very good mechanics will be as good as one or two minutes per day, which is wrong according to current standards. So you can set your watch by quartz $ 8. 8 ^) (or mobile phone). Another thing. Pocket watches were the best made for Railway workers. 100 years ago anyone who has worked on a railroad must have a very good show. They are called "hits railway" (What else?) And an easy way to locate one is that the numbers they have on them instead of Roman numerals, they have "1 2 3", etc. They were made by Hamilton, Elgin, Gruen, etc. In addition, you should know that companies often watch the movement, and jewelers make the case so often the same watch is available in plain or fancy case, silver or gold plated steel or solid gold, in the cases where the full face or "hunter" with a plateau break closed. Different prices, of course.
