Why wristwatch dealers often blocking watch serial numbers when selling watches on the internet and………..?

…claiming that is being done for privacy and security purposes? I just wonder what harm can be done to anyone privacy and anyone security if watch dealer will provide serial number of a timepiece to buyer in advance?

Ajnyone who got the serial number could easily report it as stolen for one thing!
