Breitling Watches – the choice of drivers over a century

Breitling, manufacturer of the finest men of the world watches, was created in 1884 by Leon Breitling, who founded the company at the tender age of 24 in Switzerland. The First World War marked the first real arrival of the aircraft, especially as a machine combat. As the aircraft took off, sorry for the pun, Breitling turned their attention to the field of aviation timekeeping, and it proved to be a good thing. During the Second World War, they have innovated again, introducing the famous "Chronomat" watch that was the world's first to feature a circular slide rule to aid navigation. With its reputation watch a Premium Aviator, Breitling has quickly become the de-facto choice of pilots worldwide. This reputation was further cemented when the owners Airline Pilots Association, called the Chronomat watch as official. The ultimate success of the Breitling arrived in 1962, when astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a their watches in space – this watch has become known as "Cosmonaut" and is a very highly sought after today shows.

The 1970s saw Breitling fortunes dip slightly as less expensive, more accurate quartz watches took the world by storm. They have struggled against a rising tide of competition, particularly Japan and the Far East with brands such as Seiko take much of their business. This has been turned around in the early 1980s, however, by Ernest Schneider who has managed to promote the brand using his aviation background and relatively to the drawings Bulky actually become an asset in great demand. Mechanical watches, such as Breitling wristwatches, soon returned to fashion. In the late 1980 Breitling wristwatch, with box and deliberately broad scope was a status symbol recognized worldwide, and soon became copied by many of its competitors.

Breitling wristwatches remain the first choice of most commercial and professional aviators today and new models such as the state of emergency Breitling sending a distress signal by radio if the wearer is lost, continue to keep the brand the cutting edge of technology and style.
