The Seiko Women’s Coutura Two-Tone Watch #SXD656 is manufactured by one of the leading watch manufacturers in the world. The company was founded in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori who owned a jewelry shop in Tokyo, Japan. Its original name was Seikosha and its Japanese definition was Sha meaning “house”, and Seiko meaning “miniature” or “success”. Pocket watches were its first products in 1895, followed by the wristwatch “Laurel” in 1913 which was a big success. In 1929 the company name was shortened to Seiko, and it manufactured the official timepiece of the Japan National Railway. In the future it would also be chosen to manufacture the timepiece for many Olympic events.

It soon became famous for inventing exquisite signature watches, including a chronograph pocket watch. It produced Japan’s first television commercial in 1953, and the first quartz digital watch the Seiko Astron evolved in 1969. By employing technology way ahead of its time, the company continued to manufacture watches of unquestionable accuracy and outstanding craftsmanship, including the Seiko “Flight Computer”, which could compute fuel consumption and navigation. In 1984 its UC 2000 watch with computer functions went on the market. In 1992 they invented the Seiko kinetic watch. Most watches today contain their self-winding technology.

In 2005 the E Ink wristwatch, only one of 500 produced, was auctioned on eBay to benefit the charity The London Child. It incorporated Electronic Ink technology from the E Ink Corporation of the United States and Seiko Epson’s advanced display techniques.

In February of this year, the company announced plans to expand to 250 retail stores to in India, and is expecting a double digit growth as a result of the expansion. The company also recently announced, “The Seiko Watch Corporation is proud to announce that its renowned and respected luxury watch collection, Grand Seiko, is to be released into selected international markets during 2010. Long recognized by watchmakers, collectors, and industry observers as one of the great watches of the world, Grand Seiko has until now, only been available in Japan and a limited number of retail locations.”
