Wristwatch Jewel

wristwatch jewel
Can anyone tell me about a watch company of the 20s called L. Lewitt & Co.?

One of my friends bought a wristwatch ladies at the flea market. On the back cover it says L. Lewitt & Co. Patent 1921. It is a chronograph movement with jewels and has diamonds and sapphires on the front and it is 14K and 18K. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

As near as I can tell, The Lewitt and Co is a jeweler, and not a watchmaker. It was common for jewelers, then buy the watch movements and watch cases companies themselves – regardless of the addition embellishments they wanted. Tiffany did also. What is the name of the watch movement? It could be done by almost everyone – from Swiss firms U.S. firms. How many jewels on the movement? Quite honestly, in my many years in watches (my husband was a watchmaker) what you see is often the case with fancy movements of inferior quality. The cases were sold this. The full movement back plate or it looks like bars running through it? That would tell me much. Pax
