Why watches are always associated with racing and flying?

Ive seen a lot of adds on wristwatches and they are aleays associated with racing and flying. Does an F1 race driver have time to check his watch while driving at hi speeds? A modern plane has all the meters, gauges and controls, why still associate it with a watch?

Because fine watches are made with precision..just like F1 cars and planes.
